An Artificial Intelligence-Based Fingerprint Biometric Application for Students Attendance Register

Abstract


This paper provided an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solution to the problem related to student conventional attendance registers which are usually manipulated, lost, stolen, and damaged by violent or aggressive students. The materials employed included the use of an Arduino and a finger print scanner with IFTTT (If This Then That) application for wireless transmission and embedded system. The implementation procedure were multi-stages and involved collecting fingerprint samples, inputting collected signals in an Arduino device for comparison and storage before transmission and communication through the IFTTT Application. The outputs were displayed in a Microsoft Excel worksheet located in google drive. The results complied with the aim of the study, including the use of attendees’ real-time data, achieving an efficiency of 87% success rate, without trading security and speed. The study settled the problem of impersonation as unregistered students will be denied access. Consequently, schools, parastatals and agencies are advised to adopt this technology while future researchers concentrate on optimizing and improving the efficiency level.
