MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF COIR FIBERS UNDER IN-FLUENCE OF NATURAL FIBER REINFORCED WITH POL-YPROPYLENE COMPOSITES
Abstract
Coir fiber was chosen for this study due to its low cost, high lignin content, low density, low tensile strength, low tensile modulus, and high range of elongation in comparison to other fibers. Additionally, it is non-toxic. After being washed with regular water, the rough (raw) Coir fiber was used to make the composites, which were then subjected to additional treatments. After which their mechanical composition, Tensile, compressive, Flexural properties were determined and the results are discussed in the laboratory. Due to mechanical composition and surface modification (fiber/matrix adhesion), their properties significantly improved.
