Design of an Oil Palm Fruit Digester

H L KULKARNI

Abstract

An oil palm fruit digester is very much to crush the sterilized palm fruits to fruit pulp in palm oil production. It is also known as palm oil digester, or digester screw press. The palm oil extraction effectiveness is significantly enhanced after digesting process. An oil palm fruit digester was designed, fabricated and it is well examined. The materials for fabrication were sourced nearby. The machine was examined for its capacity (Dc) and efficiency (η). The average capacity of 330.91 kg/h and efficiency of 62.35% were achieved. Rate of digestion improved with the increase in mass of the digesting palm fruits while the effectiveness of the oil palm fruit digester reduced with raise in mass of the digesting palm fruit in several cases. The fruit digester machine is very easy and simple to operate.
