THERMO-MECHANICAL FATIGUE- A REVIEW

BIJIT KALITA

Abstract

Abstract: The development of new methods of material studies and computer techniques changes the methods of constructing the components of technical devices which concerns all fields of technology. One of such methods is the Thermo-mechanical Fatigue (TMF) which is the primary life-limiting factor for engineering components in many high-temperature applications. TMF is an overlay of a cyclical mechanical loading that leads to fatigue of a material, with a cyclical thermal loading. Material properties, mechanical strain range, strain rate, temperature and the phasing between temperature and mechanical strain all play a vital role in the type of damage formed in the material. In this paper, a study on the Thermo-mechanical Fatigue Life has been reported. Also, the different TMF Life Prediction Models has been discussed in the present study.
