A Review of Crack Investigation and Its Impact on Rotating Shaft Performance

Anjum Ahuja

Abstract

The parts of high-performance rotating machinery used in process and utility plants, such as high speed compressors, steam and gas turbines, generators, pumps, etc., that are exposed to the harshest circumstances are shafts. Serious faults may arise when shafts are operated under various situations, but because to the quickly varying nature of loads, these are highly suspicious of cracks. The rotor system's dynamic behavior is altered when a crack forms. It reduces the material's or object's strength. When the shaft rotates, a fault will cause the rotating shaft's vibration response to change somewhat.
