Relevance of Indoor Air Quality for Making Built Environment- More Qualitative, Sustainable and Livable

Abstract


Exteriors and interiors constitute two critical layers of every building, which are planned, designed and constructed on planet earth. Both have its role, relevance and importance in making any building aesthetically pleasing and operationally qualitative. If building facades are valuable for showcasing the personality and character of any building to the community, then interiors of buildings remain valuable determinants of health, happiness and productivity of the people, using the buildings. Considering the fact that people live within buildings; accordingly, quality of interior spaces assumes importance for the owners, occupants and users of the building. Considering the fact that 80% of human life span is spent in the interior of the buildings, accordingly it becomes critical that interiors spaces must be made more qualitative, sustainable, free from pollutants and providers of best quality of indoor air to the users of such spaces. Considering the far reaching impact of interior spaces on human living , paper tries to brief about the options which can be leveraged in making value addition to interior spaces to make built environment more healthy, qualitative, sustainable and livable.
