ROLE OF COP26 FRAMEWORK AND ITS IMPACT ON CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS CONTRIBUTING TO NET ZERO TARGETS

Vertika Bajaj

Abstract

To achieve net-zero objectives, this article explores the effects of the COP 26 framework on construction projects. The research intends to match building practices with COP 26 targets, acknowledging the critical role played by the Built Environment and building Sector in global carbon emissions, notably from the steel and cement sectors. The study's approach entails a thorough analysis of the COP 26 accords, international climate targets, and sustainable building techniques. Materials are assessed according to standards including energy efficiency, durability, recyclability, and carbon footprint. The Indian steel and cement sectors are highlighted in particular, along with plans for reaching net-zero emissions by 2070. The study makes recommendations for substitute strategies to lower the amount of steel used in buildings, highlighting the significance of renewable energy sources and energy-efficient technology. Ultimately, the findings emphasize the complexity of India's transition to net zero and the need for technology advancements and supportive policies.
