Identifying the ecosystem services in the Motijheel CBD and how they might be connected to the pedestrian system

Abstract


In order to sustain and improve human life within a preexisting urban arrangement, this paper begins with a concern about integrating ecological services. It then discusses the Green Transport System in relation to microclimate regulation, rainwater drainage (water regulation), and recreational/cultural values. Although the built portions of Dhaka city have been recognized as experiencing ecological pressure, the natural surroundings are not integrated into the city's structure or preserved. As Dhaka is more urbanized, strategies for urban planning that integrate open-space systems and preserve the environment are needed to be addressed. The open spaces found within cities are still merely isolated green areas that contribute very little to the overall ecological balance and quality of the environment. The city center's increased motor traffic load and hard surfaces make it less livable and jeopardize ecological stability. The Dhaka Structure Plan 2016–2035 (DSP)[1] acknowledges this problem and presents an Objective UD–06 (Green Network) under “Enhance the Cityscape with Urban Design and Landscape” that talks about integrated landscaped links by using streetscape. After that, the main goal of this study work is to determine the extent of the urban street and pedestrian level as well as the changes that would occur in the ecological scenario, with a focus on the Central Business District Motijheel, Dhaka. Several field studies have been carried out in this inquiry to identify pedestrian and street level spaces that can be used for street green infrastructure within the judicial planning framework. The goal of this research project is to evaluate integrated non-motorized transport schemes with absorbent reformed surfaces at the pedestrian level in urban settings in terms of environmental sustainability. This research will examine and compare the percentage surrounding the span of renewed ecological scenarios with the current context in accordance with observation and theoretical analysis.
