Avani Pareek, Nitu Bhatnagar

Abstract

Ayurveda is an exclusive system of medicine which uses metals and minerals in the form of bhasma (fine powder obtained through calcinations). These bhasma have various therapeutic uses. Yashada bhasma is prepared by zinc metal and very useful in treatment of various ailments like diabetes, eye problem, anemia, cough, etc. To prepare the Yashada bhasma the three step processes Shodhana, Jarana, Marana have been performed in the same detailed process as is mentioned in the Ancient ayurvedic texts. Shodhana is done for purification of metal and further carried for calcination to reduce the particle size through Marana process. The Yashada bhasma which has been prepared in the above mentioned method is the perfect combination of minerals and herbs and has attained the perfect particle size. This is proved by ancient characterization method. This bhasma can now be used as a medicine for human being for treatment of various kinds of ailments such as diabetes, eye disorder etc.
