Pneumatic braking Systems: Case Study

Avdhut Gujar

Abstract

Braking systems are critical for ensuring vehicular safety and operational control. Pneumatic braking systems, which operate using compressed air, have become the preferred choice for heavy-duty vehicles and trains due to their robustness, fail-safe design, and high braking force. This paper explores the fundamental working principle, components, advantages, disadvantages, and key applications of pneumatic braking systems. A real-world case study of Indian Railways highlights their large-scale implementation and practical benefits. The study concludes that despite certain limitations, pneumatic braking systems remain essential in modern transportation for their reliability and efficiency.
