Supply Chain Management Framework for Construction Projects

Nayan Harji Kerai, Prof. (Dr.) J. R. Pitroda, Dr. Reshma L. Patel, Er. Jayesh D. Prajapati

Abstract

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is essential for improving the efficiency and performance of construction projects by ensuring the smooth flow of materials, resources, and information. This study examines the key components, processes, benefits, and challenges of SCM in construction. The SCM framework includes stages such as planning, procurement, production, distribution, and information flow, which support effective project execution. Key components like supplier management, inventory control, logistics, risk mitigation, technology, and sustainability enhance coordination and efficiency. Effective SCM leads to cost savings, timely delivery, better resource utilization, and reduced transportation costs. However, challenges such as poor coordination, communication issues, inadequate planning, lack of training, resistance to new technology, and material shortages affect its implementation. Therefore, adopting an integrated SCM approach is important to overcome these challenges and improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in construction projects.
