STUDY OF WIND EFFECT ON TALL BUILDINGS USING WIND TUNNEL AND IS CODE

Abstract


Tall buildings are increasingly susceptible to wind-induced forces due to their height, flexibility, and low damping characteristics. This study evaluates the effect of wind loads on tall buildings using both analytical and experimental approaches. Two identical G+30 buildings separated by a distance of 80 m are considered for analysis. Wind loads are calculated according to IS 875 (Part 3): 2015 using both static and dynamic (gust factor) methods. A three-dimensional model is developed and analyzed using ETABS based on the Finite Element Method. In addition, wind tunnel testing using the High-Frequency Force Balance technique is considered to simulate realistic wind behavior. The study highlights the importance of accurate wind load estimation for ensuring structural safety, serviceability, and reliability in tall buildings.
