Stress Experienced and Coping Strategies Adopted by Mothers of Neonates Admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Abstract


The purpose of the study is to determine the stress level and coping among mothers of new born admitted in NICU. A sample of 45 mothers of neonates admitted in NICU was selected by purposive sampling method. Data were collected using four types of self-report tools, Semi- structured questionnaire for collecting data about socio-demographic information, Parental stress scale to assess the level of stress into three categories and a Likert scale to assess the different coping strategies adopted by the mothers. It was found that 68.9% mothers reported moderate level of stress and 84.4% of the mothers adopted effective coping strategies.The study has implication in the field of nursing practice, nursing education, nursing administration and nursing research. Based on the study finding the recommendation was made for comparative study in different setting and study administrating new technique of teaching.
