SMART VOICE-BASED AI ASSISTANT FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE

Mahima Rawat, Dr Ravi Shankar H

Abstract

Technology advancement allows humans to live their lives efficiently and comfortably. However, some people with disabilities such as the visually impaired still find it difficult to use technology or smart devices. It is hard for people with visual disabilities to use smartphones or computers as visual information is the basis for more tasks in it. Nowadays AI is being used in all fields, with Python being its base language. Python is being used to write the codes for Voice Assistants as it is easier to use and understand. Voice Assistant is very helpful for visually impaired people as it helps them to use the technology without anyone’s helps. They can access their phone or laptops by giving instructions to the Virtual Assistant. In, Python there are a number of APIs that are used to create a Virtual Assistant one of them is SpeechRecognition which is used to convert speech to text. This API is used in several virtual assistants available in the market like Alexa, Siri, etc. Virtual Assistant makes it easier for Visually Impaired people to use the features of Phones or laptops like sending emails, searching on Google, opening any IDE and many more with just a voice command. The project aims to help visually impaired people use laptops or computers with just voice commands. This Voice assistant also helps the visually impaired recognise the text on any object and gives audio feedback.
