IoT-based Smart Railway Gate Crossing System and Automatic Railway Gate Controlling

Himanshu .

Abstract

This paper's primary goal is to suggest a smart system for automatically opening railroad gates to prevent accidents while people are crossing them, as well as a smart method of doing so by using a mobile application.  We are utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) in this system. The Internet of Things is a network of sensor-connected, networked devices. IoT devices have the ability to interact without human intervention. By putting these into practice, the gadget that operates the railway gate will have control over it. It cuts down on the amount of time and carelessness the gatekeeper has to operate the gate to open and close. Thus, these systems are helpful in lowering the number of accidents at level crossings. Furthermore, an extra function has been added for the convenience of cars who can utilize the level crossing. Here, the driver must download and install a mobile application to check whether the railway gate is open or closed. The train's presence or absence is detected by the ultrasonic sensor, which then uses NodeMCU to send data to Google Firebase. Firebase then uses Servo Motor to close the gate at the level crossing and sends the same information to NodeMCU. When the train departs, the ultrasonic sensor on the opposite side sends data to Google Firebase once more, and Firebase again instructs NodeMCU to open the level crossing gate. This autonomous solution is time-saving, real-time, and cost-effective.
