Touchless Hand Gesture Processing System

J. Sharon Sheeba

Abstract

The emerging smart technologies have given rise to a new function called touchless control. This paper aims to achieve the touchless control for electrical appliancesby a user without touching any devices such as switches, buttonsand/or sensors. To achieve this aim, we use a touchless hand gesture processing system that is provided with an embedded kit and is operated according to a HAAR cascade classifier algorithm and a speeded up robust features (SURF) algorithm. The proposed system is operated in a general mode in which the applianes are operated by all users, and in a security mode in which the apploiances are operated only by an authenticated user. The processing of the hand gestures are obtained using the HAAR cascade classifier algorithm, and the porcessing of the face image is obtained using the SURF algorithm. The proposed system is used to ON/OFF the electrical appliances according to the hand gestures of the user, even in different lighting conditions.
