A Review of Opportunities and Challenges in Microwave Assisted Casting

Sameer Suresh Gajmal

Abstract

Casting of metals is one of the primary manufacturing processes used in industries and is one of the economical routes for producing useful components. However conventional casting process has some drawbacks in terms of higher energy consumptions, longer melting times, and higher defects. To overcome these drawbacks of conventional casting process, new process are being developed. The present laws of environment conversation are motivating to investigate newer technologies delivering clean and green energy. Hence the material processing industries are now focusing on the requirement of cleaner production technologies for green manufacturing and to meet the global energy crises. Microwave Assisted Casting process is one of the new technologies which is capable to meet these current requirements of the industries. In this paper contribution done by various researcher have been discussed which throws light on various research opportunities in the field of microwave assisted casting process.
