An Overview of Additive Manufacturing Technologies
Abstract
Additive Manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D printing, represents a transformative approach in manufacturing by allowing the layer-by-layer fabrication of complex objects directly from digital models. With advancements in technology, AM has been adopted in various industries, including aerospace, healthcare, and automotive sectors. Material Extrusion, Material Jetting, Binder Jetting, Sheet Lamination, Vat Photopolymerization, Powder Bed Fusion, and Direct Energy Deposition are the seven main categories into which this study divides the main categories of additive manufacturing technology. The functioning principles, benefits, drawbacks, and possible uses of each type are thoroughly described. Selecting suitable AM techniques for various industry applications and upcoming research advancements will be made easier with an understanding of these technologies.
