The Influence of Parenting on the Academic Engagement of Basic Five Students in Aba-North Local Government Area, Abia, State, Nigeria

Abstract


Parenting is a multifaceted concept that plays a crucial role in a child's well-being. The parenting style, parent-child relationship, and parenting practices all interact to shape a child's development. It is important for parents to be aware of these dimensions and strive to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for their child's growth and development. Understanding these aspects of parenting can also help professionals in the field of psychology and education to better support parents and promote positive outcomes for children. The study examined Parental involvement and its impact on basic five pupil’s academic achievement in Aba-North L.G.A. of Abia State. Two research questions. Related literatures were reviewed under theoretical, conceptual and empirical reviews. A descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised all basic five pupils in public primary school teachers in Aba-North L.G.A. The sampling focus on the 10 public schools. Out of the ten public schools five of them were randomly selected for the study. However, all the 200 parents in the selected schools were used for the study. The researcher developed an instrument titled “parental involvement impact on social studies (PIIS-Q). The internal consistency reliability estimate yielded 0.98. This showed that the instrument was good for the study. Data were analyzed using, mean and standard deviation to answer research questions while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that There is significant influences parental involvement in social studies education among basic two pupils, such as (factors, extent do parental involvement predict academic achievement, and strategies can be employed to improve parental involvement in social studies education among basic five pupils in Aba-north L.G.A. Abia State.
