Review on Ayurveda Approach for Pre Conceptional Care: A Preliminary Study

Abstract


Ayurveda is a science that has both preventive as well as curative aspects. The main aim of Ayurveda towards disease management and maintaining the health of healthy individuals. Reproduction is one of the prime requirements of any species to continue its existence in the universe. In modern era is challenged by the number of congenital, chromosomal & genetic issues in new-borns as well as pregnancy complications. Mainly due to environmental, physical, mental, and socio-cultural factors. Preconception care could be considered as one of preventive measure and it helps in the early identification of high-risk factors and prevents their adverse effect of that. Also improve maternal, paternal, and child health in both the short and long term. Preconception care can be defined as a set of interventions that are to be followed by women and couples before conception to promote healthy progeny. Ayurveda medical system rich with well-described preconception care in terms of garbhadhana vidhi since centuries back and mainly emphasizes the way of attain healthy and strong progeny by following the regimens.In such situations, Ayurveda can contribute tremendously to effective preconception care and it helps to minimize complications of pregnancy by changing the physical and mental status of couples willing for pregnancy. Hence, the objective of this study was to collect literature data on preconception care as per ayurveda by correlating its scientific aspect through authentic Ayurveda texts, scientific journals, and other authentic texts regarding preconception care. According to the literature analysis, all collected data concluded that proper pre-Conceptional care provides insight to build up optimal health for mothers and babies through Ayurveda concepts. Further, the present review would help provide easy access to establish standard Ayurveda preconception care protocol and to develop preconception counselling methods to promote healthy progeny through preconception care as per Ayurveda.
