Abstract

Inflammation is the body efforts to inactivate or destroy the invading organism, remove irritants and helps in tissue repair. Inflammation is a defensive biological response of the body induced by the damage tissues against the harmful stimuli, infection and physical damage. Although it become chronic leads to inflammatory disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, chronic bronchitis. Inflammation is characterized by redness, heat, swelling, and pain. Cytokine’s are the major signaling proteins in the host response against inflammation and immune system.

Medicinal plants and their constituents are used as the anti-inflammatory agents because of their high therapeutics effects with less side effects as compared to the synthetics medicines. These herbs and their constituents alter or inhibit the inflammatory activity or process. Flavonoids, glycoside, alkaloids, Steroids, terpenoids common phytoconstituents are present in the plants. These phytoconstituents are interfere with the inflammatory activity or process like cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenases, interleukins, nitric oxide, prostaglandin, tumor necrosis to minimize tissue injury and make patients more comfortable.
