Rural - Urban Mobility: Impact on Farming Productions and Distributions. A Case Study of Osun State Local Government Area, Nigeria

Abstract


The frictions encountered in urban- rural movements particularly raw materials and farming produce necessitates provision of motor able roads particularly, industrial society’s man lives today. This paper intends to address lopsidedness in mobility infrastructural provisions in OlaOluwa and Iwo local government area, Osun state, Nigeria. The study analyzed the effectsof moving rural produce and distributions to urban areas and the cost- profit`s relationships arising from bad transport landscape in recent times, in the study area. The study population consists of 3,500 farmers in tensettlements. Purposive sampling technique and random sampling technique were used, noted for crops farming, random sampling technique was used to select 360 farmers out of the 3,500 farmers from the tenrural settlements in two local governments of Osun state. Primary and secondary data were used; non-parametricresearch tool was employed for the analysis of data collected. The regression results indicates a strong relationship between transportation variables and delivery efficiency (R2= 0.673), as well as between transportation cost and farmers` profitability (R2 = 0. 452). The study found out malady in the movements of farmers` inputs and outputs had brewed lots of shortages to the rural farmers’ income. It, however, recommended that, actionable policies and skillful transport experts should be entrusted with rehabilitation and periodic examinations on the progresses of rural road maintenances in the study area.
