Abstract

The current study sought to formulate and characterize an Apremilast-loaded film-forming spray (FFS) for topical administration in the treatment of psoriasis, aiming to enhance localized drug delivery, improve patient adherence, and ensure sustained drug release. The film-forming spray was made by evaporating the solvent and adding the right film forming polymer, like Eudragit RS100, Ethyl cellulose, and Eudragit S100. Propylene glycol was used as a plasticizer. We used a 32 factorial design to optimize the formulation. In this design, the percentage of drug release and drying time were chosen as dependent responses. The prepared formulations were evaluated for pH, viscosity, spray characteristics, drying time, drug content, and in vitro drug release.

The developed Apremilast-loaded film-forming spray showed promise as a good way to deliver drugs to psoriasis patient. It has benefits like long–lasting drug release, easy application, and better patient compliance. This method might be a good substitute for traditional dosage forms for treating skin problems in a specific area.
