Agro-nanotechnology: An Upcoming Technology for Enhancing Crop Productivity

S. Warambhe

Abstract

Nanotechnology is making its route in agriculture all over the world. Conventional farming techniques have achieved saturation and are neither able to raise productivity nor able to restore ecosystems damaged by existing technologies. The universal requirement of food is rising progressively. Nanotechnology would confirm a bonus for contemporary agriculture farming by improving the effectiveness of nutrient uptake employing nano-fertilizers, control of pest and pathogen using nanopesticides, etc. Nanosensors are being developed that spread all over the farming fields for monitoring agro-climatic conditions required to enhance productivity of quality food crops and suitable management of fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, etc. necessity. Accordingly, agro-nanotechnology would be an eco-friendly, cost effective green technology for sustainable agriculture.
