Advancements in Additive Manufacturing: A Review of Emerging Technologies and Future Prospects
Abstract
Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, has transformed the manufacturing industry by enabling the creation of complex structures with enhanced precision and reduced material waste. Initially developed for prototyping, AM has now progressed to end-use production across sectors such as aerospace, healthcare, automotive, and consumer goods. Recent advancements have broadened the scope of AM, with innovations in materials, multi-material printing, hybrid manufacturing, and process optimization. This paper reviews the latest developments in AM technologies, focusing on material breakthroughs, new printing techniques, and integration with Industry 4.0 concepts. The paper also highlights the potential impact of these advancements on future manufacturing trends and the challenges that need to be addressed to achieve widespread adoption.
