Experimental Study on RPM Measurement and Speed Monitoring of Air Compressor System
Abstract
The rotational speed (RPM) of a compressor plays a vital role in determining its performance, efficiency, and reliability. Accurate RPM measurement is essential for monitoring operational conditions, diagnosing faults, and maintaining optimal compressor output. This study focuses on the development and testing of a digital tachometer-based system for real-time RPM measurement of a reciprocating air compressor. The setup includes an optical sensor and a microcontroller interface to capture rotational speed data with high accuracy. Experiments were conducted under different loading conditions, and the measured results were compared with standard mechanical tachometer readings. The results indicate that the digital system provides reliable and precise measurements with less than 2% error. The proposed method enhances predictive maintenance capability and supports efficient compressor operation in industrial applications.
