Impact and Evaluation of Cost and Time Overruns in Construction Projects in India: A Review
Abstract
Time and cost overruns are major challenges faced in the construction sector of India. They occur when a project takes longer than planned or exceeds the estimated budget. These overruns affect project performance, increase financial pressure, and delay project completion. The main causes include poor planning, design changes, lack of skilled labour, and delays in material supply. To study these issues, a questionnaire survey was prepared and distributed among engineers, contractors, and project managers. The collected data was analysed to find common reasons and their impact on project success. Based on the findings, suggestions were made to improve project scheduling, cost control, and communication. Proper monitoring, realistic estimation, and timely decision-making can help reduce time and cost overruns and improve the overall efficiency of construction projects in India.
