Sustainability and Efficiency in Beam Design: A Comparative Analysis of Prestressed Concrete and RCC Beams Using RAPT and STAAD Pro software
Abstract
The research investigates the modeling and analysis of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and prestressed concrete beams using RAPT and ETABS software. The focus is on evaluating parameters such as bending moment, shear force, deflection, material usage, and overall efficiency under similar conditions. The findings indicate that prestressed concrete beams demonstrate superior performance in terms of efficiency and sustainability compared to RCC deep beams, offering better structural behavior with lower material needs and environmental impact. The research underscores the benefits of software tools in optimizing beam design for strength and sustainability, aiding engineers in selecting cost-effective and eco-friendly beam systems for modern construction. Notably, the use of prestressed beams allows for greater floor height; the study reveals that six RCC deep beams are necessary for one floor, while only three prestressed beams suffice, leading to savings in both cost and floor height.
