

Ferro-Geopolymer Composites: A Review on Mechanical Properties and Structural Applications
Abstract
This review paper explores the recent developments in ferro-geopolymer composites, focusing on their mechanical properties, flexural behavior, and durability. The study covers various aspects, including the impact of curing conditions on geopolymer mortar, the influence of mesh reinforcement types and layers on impact resistance, and the flexural performance of geopolymer ferrocement slabs. The findings indicate that heat-cured geopolymer mortar achieves higher early strength compared to ambient curing. Additionally, an increased number of wire mesh layers enhances the impact strength and energy absorption capacity of geopolymer ferrocement. The use of welded mesh was found to improve the flexural behavior of slabs significantly. While research on geopolymer and ferrocement technologies has progressed over decades, the integration of ferro-geopolymer composites is relatively new and requires further exploration, particularly in structural applications. This paper highlights the need for continued research to optimize material properties for sustainable construction solutions.
