Abstract
This study examines the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as a growth pole and its multifaceted impact on the socio-economic, infrastructural, and cultural development of Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Utilizing data from surveys, interviews, and econometric analysis, this study explores FUOYE's role in transforming Oye-Ekiti into a vibrant University town. Key findings reveal FUOYE’s influence in creating employment, enhancing local infrastructure, and reshaping social dynamics, although challenges such as increased crime and environmental strain persist. By comparing these impacts to growth pole theories and previous studies on university-community interactions, this research offers insights for policymakers aiming to maximize the positive effects of University establishments in similar locales.
