Ahmedabad's Structural Aesthetics After Independence
Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to discuss how important post-independence buildings' structural aesthetics are. The research also uses contextual case studies along a chronological dimension to examine strong ideologies and the expression of freedom. What does the term "structural aesthetics" signify, and how is it intended to be understood? In actuality, there are various ways that the structure could be managed. The first could involve seeing it as playing a major role and accomplishing bigger spans, reaching size efficiency, and building efficiency by adhering to grids, modules, or geometry, among other things. Structure in the latter case just supports the spatial organization. Finally, and perhaps most significantly, the modernist method of revealing the structure and drawing aesthetics from it is the main emphasis of this work. This aesthetic is exclusive to the modernist movement. Regarding this study, the main goal was to improve the aesthetics of a few modernist structures in Ahmedabad that were designed by various architects within the same period of time. In light of this, it is also important to comprehend how they came to develop an aesthetic sensibility, which was a reflection of how they saw modernism. It is important to consider the context and period of conception when attempting to extract the aesthetics that have been addressed above from a structure. Men and women joined forces to address the Freedom Movement in India, addressing the widely held concept of freedom through socio-cultural and political factors. Subsequently, this idea permeated Indian cities' design, most notably Ahmedabad. Investigating these cities' art and architecture resulted from doubting one's Indian identity. Ahmedabad is so significant because of its contemporary history and the era to which it belongs.
