Smart System for Landslide Monitoring and Alerts

Abstract


Landslides are devastating natural disasters that often happen in hilly and mountainous regions. They cause significant loss of life and damage to property. This paper introduces an IoT-based Landslide Detection and Early Warning System that continuously monitors key parameters this include ground tilt using an MPU6050 sensor, soil moisture content, and ground vibrations through a vibration sensor. The system uses ESP8266 NodeMCU as the central processing unit. This unit collects sensor data and sends it to a local host server for real-time monitoring and visualization. A mobile application interface displays sensor readings and sends instant alerts when parameters go beyond set threshold values. The system offers early warning to communities in landslide-prone areas, helping facilitate timely evacuations and preventive actions. The local host-based IoT approach ensures reliable data monitoring, even in locations with limited internet connectivity.
