Analytical and Performance Study of Reciprocating Pump under Different Operating Conditions

Abstract


Reciprocating pumps are widely used positive displacement hydraulic machines employed in applications requiring high pressure and accurate discharge control. The present research paper focuses on analytical performance evaluation of a reciprocating pump under different operating conditions. Parameters such as theoretical discharge, actual discharge, coefficient of discharge, slip, and efficiency are studied analytically for varying pump speeds. The study helps in understanding pump behavior and operating limitations under practical conditions. Results indicate that discharge increases linearly with speed while slip and acceleration head increase at higher operating conditions. The research also discusses the influence of leakage, cavitation, and valve losses on pump performance. The findings of this study are useful for industrial applications, irrigation systems, hydraulic machinery, and boiler feed systems where reciprocating pumps are commonly used.
