Advancements in Pipe Flow Measurement Techniques

Anant A

Abstract

Accurate measurement of fluid flow through pipes is essential across a range of industrial, environmental, and research applications. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of various pipe flow measurement techniques, including differential pressure-based methods (e.g., orifice plates, Venturi meters), velocity-based instruments (e.g., turbine and ultrasonic flowmeters), and modern non-intrusive technologies (e.g., electromagnetic and Coriolis flowmeters). The performance of each method is evaluated in terms of accuracy, pressure drop, installation complexity, cost, and suitability for different types of fluids and flow conditions. Experimental setups and computational simulations are employed to validate theoretical predictions and highlight the strengths and limitations of each technique. The findings aim to assist engineers and researchers in selecting the most appropriate method for specific applications, thereby improving system efficiency and process control.
