Formulation and Evaluation of a Polyherbal Cough Syrup Containing Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Ginger (Zingiber officinale), and Honey: A Phytotherapeutic Approach
Abstract
The present investigation involves the formulation and systematic evaluation of a polyherbal cough syrup prepared using four well-known medicinal agents Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Ginger (Zingiber officinale), and Honey recognized for their diverse pharmacological profiles, including antitussive, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and mucolytic properties. The objective of this study was to prepare a palatable, stable, and efficacious herbal formulation that could provide symptomatic relief in cases of cough and minor respiratory tract infections without the side effects typically associated with synthetic drugs. Comprehensive phytochemical screening, organoleptic evaluation, physicochemical characterization, and stability studies were conducted to assess the quality and therapeutic potential of the syrup.
