ANALYZING THE IMPACT OF DEMONETIZATION ON THE PROFITABILITY OF INDIAN BANKING COMPANIES

Abstract


The current research paper examines the determinants of profitability of banking sector of Indian public sector banks during the period of demonetisation which was announced by Prime Minister of India on 8 November 2016 as the currency notes of five hundred and thousand rupees were being replaced by new five hundred and two thousand rupees notes. Return on Assets and Return on Equity are the profitability indicator of the company. There are also other factors which will indicate the capability of banks but these are the two important factors which really indicates the position of the company. This research paper will help us to check whether there was a significant, effect of demonetization in profitability in, banking sector. In this research paper there will be a panel data test of different public sector banks from the period from 2015 – 2024.
