Detecting Unauthorized Products using a Blockchain System based on Barcodes

Muskan Tahura, Javeriya Sadaf, Nida Harmine

Abstract

The growing incidence of counterfeit products across various sectors presents considerable challenges to consumer safety, brand integrity, and economic stability. This paper introduces an innovative strategy to address counterfeit goods by merging blockchain technology with barcode scanning systems. By giving each item a unique barcode and connecting it to an immutable blockchain database, products’ authentication and traceability can be safely verified. Because blockchain technology is decentralized, product data, such as production specifications and distribution history, is preserved. Customers and retailers can instantly retrieve validated product data from the blockchain by utilizing mobile devices or scanners to scan the barcode. By improving product security, transparency, and traceability across the supply chain, this technology gives users the capacity to identify fake goods with ease. A strong mechanism in the suggested system discourages the sale of fake goods, increases customer confidence, and preserves the integrity of international supply chains.
