Studies examining the partial replacement of cement with fly ash in concrete components
Abstract
The focus of modern society is mostly on sustainable and green development. Thermal power plants currently produce a significant amount of fly ash, a waste product that has negative effects on both the environment and people. Fly ash, a waste product of thermal power plants, is particularly harmful to the environment. To measure its use, experiments were conducted on mortar that contained fly ash in place of some of the sand, both by volume and by weight. The use of fly ash as an additional cementatious ingredient in concrete compositions has been tested as an alternative to conventional concrete. Different ratios of both bottom fly ash and pond fly ash were utilized when making cement mortar, and their compressive and tensional strengths were evaluated. For the M-25 and M-40 mix, fly ash has been substituted for cement in the following proportions: 0% (fly ash not included), 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% by weight of cement. These tests were performed in order to assess the mechanical characteristics of the split strength and compressive strength values for a period of 56 days and 28 days, respectively.
