Advancements and Challenges in Self-Compacting Concrete: A Literature Review
Abstract
This study reviews the performance of self-compacting concrete (SCC) in comparison to traditional vibrated concrete (NVC), focusing on mix optimization, workability, and durability. SCC's ability to self-consolidate without vibration makes it ideal for densely reinforced structures. The review highlights the role of additives like superplasticizers, viscosity-modifying agents, and fine powders in enhancing SCC's flowability, stability, and strength. Research on permeation properties, air-void stability, and resistance to sulfate and frost exposure underscores the material's potential for high durability in challenging conditions. Findings emphasize the importance of optimizing mix design to improve the long-term performance of SCC in diverse construction environments.
