Abstract

The road transport sector plays a pivotal role in economic development, serving as the primary mode for goods and passenger transportation in Southwestern Nigeria. Despite its importance, inefficiencies in fleet management continue to hinder operational performance, inflate costs, and compromise safety and reliability. This research examines fleet management strategies in selected private and public road transport companies, analyzing their impact on vehicle replacement strategies, operational performance, and cost management. Using a mixed-method approach, the study collected data from 372 respondents, including drivers and fleet managers, and analyzed it using descriptive and inferential statistics. Key findings indicate that vehicle maintenance, fuel management, driver management, and vehicle tracking are significant predictors of vehicle replacement strategies. The results underscore the need for standardized driver training, investment in technology, and policy reforms to enhance fleet operations.
