Average Flow in some major roads in Port Harcourt

Iwo, E. O., Egop, S. E.

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the average density of all vehicles in some selected roads in Port Harcourt; Abuloma, Artillery, Borikiri, Choba, Iwofe, Mile 3 and Woji, various intersections, bus stops, and overpasses were considered in the course of this study for 4 weeks, this was done by carrying out manual traffic count at different sections of the road for 15 minutes taking a distance of 0.035km for morning and evening peak time of the day. Results show the morning and evening data. Flooding of the roadways produced by clogged drains following heavy rainfall also reduces speed, thus the community should invest in cleanliness to prevent slow vehicle movement during peak hours. The public transportation system should be adequately routed and scheduled to minimize stops while traveling.
