Conventional and Modified Activated Carbon for Color Removal of Secondary Effluent from Textile Industry

Chandadevi B. Rajput, Prashant Ramesh Bamane

Abstract

The possible utilization of Rice Husk & Granular Activated Carbon as an adsorbent for colour removal from textile waste water has been investigated. Activated rice husk is prepared from rice husk treated with Nitric acid, after this process MAC (Modified Activated Carbon).  GAC (Granular Activated carbon) was collected directly from market. The tertiary waste water treatment was carried out using rice husk & GAC to remove COD, BOD, Colour. The effect of system variables such as PH, flow rate, contact time were investigated. The result shows that efficiency varies with the variation in adsorbate concentration & adsorbent. The colour removal efficiency for GAC is 65% to 83% & for MAC 78% to 98% up to the throughput volume 390ml.
