A REVIEW ON THE USAGE OF EDIBLE WATER BOTTLES

M. Abirami

Abstract

Water is the most important need for life. People across the world suffer due to shortage of fresh and clean water as well as good ecosystem. Unplanned urbanization had contributed to generation of wastes in the environment. One such factor is due to large accumulation of plastic wastes. These are non bio-degradable in nature or it takes millions of years to degrade. Usage of plastic had been increased since this generation due to its easy availability. An initiative for reduction of plastics supplied for storage of water had been taken in the form of edible natural sea weeds. As a matter of fact, plastic accumulation goes on increasing due to discarded water bottles after its use. As they are not disposed of in a right manner, they create pollution in the form of wastes that spread across the world and causes severe threats to this environment which indirectly affects the public health. This study aims to apply alternative preventive measures to reduce the rate of plastic used in mineral water industries. Naturally available sea weeds have the capability of storing water or any edible liquids by forming a membrane when brought in contact with certain chemicals like calcium lactate which are edible and biologically degradable.
