Abstract

The KT Weir (Kolhapur Type Bandhara) is a unique riverbed structure in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, designed to store water for agricultural use. Initially implemented during Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj's reign, this weir features piers with gaps, allowing water passage. Restored here as the 'MINI KT WEIR,' it emphasizes water storage over bridge functionality. Historical and contemporary weirs have served diverse purposes, from ancient fish harvesting to modern water management. For Mahadare, Satara, a 2008 KT Weir combats water scarcity. Restoration proves vital due to climate change-induced water scarcity. Mini KT Weirs align with water security, community empowerment, heritage preservation, and environmental sustainability. Techniques like excavation, formwork, and mix design elevate restoration. This study contributes to holistic water resource management, cultural heritage preservation, and community development.
