ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF CULVERT AT TOVALAI BY USING STOREY TRIPPED METHOD

Abstract


Culvert is constructed near an existing structure. The construction of culvert arises in complicated situations, where the existing structure cannot be destroyed or disturbed. One similar situation has arises in Thovalai culvert. The existing culvert at Tovalai has become old and feeble. It is a double lane culvert. The existing culvert cannot be destroyed or widened because it is the only connection between Parvathipuram to Thirunellveli NH47 B. Even if the existing culvert is widened the traffic cannot be controlled, since the culvert is located at the road junction. So the only way to control the amount of traffic intensity is the construction of the culvert. Construction of culvert at Thovalai has become more important. The structural design comprises consideration of load cases moving load class AA loading. Loading breaking force disposal of load through fill, impact fator coefficient of AA loading. All the designs are as per the codal provisions. The codes used for design are IRC 6 - 2010, IRC 21 - 2000 and IS 456 - 2000.
