Hydraulic Redesign and Analysis of Kotmara Dam: Kas River Basin

Geographical data system (GIS) is an efficient tool which prime performs several operations like digitisation, delineation of streams in watershed. This tool are often expeditiously used to perform hydrological analysis and thus used for sustainable watershed management like redesign of the dam or reservoir designing. During this method, the watershed of the Kas river was drawn and discharge estimation was carried out by toposheets from survey of India (scale 1:50000) and satellite primarily based remote sensing digital elevation model (DEM). GIS tool (QGIS) was accustomed performed morphometric analysis for the higher than to derive the stream characteristics and stream orders. Use of strange’s table, the yield of break out from the structure was calculated.This is useful to find out the actual storage available at the study site. So that we can analyze whether the existing dam reservoir is sufficient or not. And can give the best measures such as hydraulic redesign of the existing Kotmara dam.
