Environmental Impact of Watershed Programmes in Rainfed Area – A Case Study

Abstract


Water scarcity due to the low rainfall, soil erosion and degradation of natural resources are the root causes for drought in Kadapa District. Adoption of soil conservation and construction of water harvesting structures reduce the soil erosion degradation of natural resources and improve the soil fertility, crop yield and economic status of the people[2]. An impact survey has been conducted to study the changes varies attributes related to agriculture, water resources and socio-economical status in fifteen watersheds. Which are implemented under National watershed development programme for rainfed areas. Statistical analysis of watershed attributes indicates that there is a significant change in all attributes due to the implementation of watershed management programmes[11].
