Development and Performance Evaluation of a Palm Fruit Screw Press

Orokor A. C, Sibete G. A., Olisa Y. P.

Abstract

When processing palm kernel oil in big volumes, the conventional processes are frequently exceedingly labor-intensive and time-consuming. The purpose of this project is to create and assess a palm fruit screw press for home usage. Materials selection, design calculations, machine development, and performance evaluation were all part of the technique employed in this work. The materials included carbon steel barrel, 2hp electric motor, gearbox, helical gear and V-belts. The results of the design calculation showed that the machine had a power requirement of , conveyor capacity of ,  driving force of  and output torque of . It was concluded that the aim of the study was achieved and further refinements to the screw geometry and pressing chamber should be explored to minimize oil losses in the cake and enhance extraction efficiency.
