Investigation of PVD-Coated Cutting Tool Wear in the Wet Machining Process
Abstract
Aluminium alloy Al12Si was machined under wet cutting conditions using two types of cutting fluids: Neem Seed Oil and Soluble Oil. Experiments were conducted using an L9 orthogonal array design in Minitab 19. The surface roughness of each tool under varying machining parameters was recorded. Tool wear for AlCrN and DLC-coated carbide inserts was analyzed using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) at 100X and 250X magnifications. Results show that DLC-coated tools exhibit less wear than AlCrN-coated tools, indicating their better performance in machining hypoeutectic aluminium alloys.
