Prediction of Long-Term Humoral and Cellular Immune Response: A Comparison of Three Schistosoma mansoni Antigens
Abstract
Schistosomes are blood parasites with a complex life cycle cause a disease of considerable medical and veterinary importance in tropical and subtropical countries. In this article, we investigate the putative role and long-term response of Schistosoma crude antigens (Cercarial Antigen Preparation CAP, Soluble Egg Antigen SEA and Soluble Worm Antigen Preparation SWAP) on humoral and cellular host immune system. Cell immune response was determined by histopathological studies of the immune organs including thymus, payer's patches of the intestine, spleen and liver. A maximum body titer was demonstrated after 33 days post immunization in group immunized with CAP vaccine. However, a maximum antibody titer in the groups vaccinated with SEA and SWAP were demonstrated after 47 days post immunization. A maximum cellular density of lymphoid and plasma cells in the immune organs under investigation were intimately parallel to the humoral immune response. The cellular immune responses were evaluated on some immune organs as thymus, payer's patches of the intestine, spleen and liver. The results of the current study about immunized effectiveness and blastogenesis, for each crude antigen in different immune organs, raises ideas about long-term promising protective responses, possible related to vaccination antipathological or antiinfectious immunity developed in tissues.
